It was at a riverside bonfire gathering of strangers, among them being an SAS guy, or so he said, which his military attire certainly attested to. Out of the blue he insisted on fighting me, and before long I was face down in the dirt while he was smashing repeatedly into the back of my neck – a method I used in those days to finish off a rabbit. Trust me, it took but a split second to know I’d be dead if this kept up. The survival instinct is strong in this one, as Yoda might say. Calculated rage and its rush of super-strength had me rise, spin, throw him off my back and on his knees. Dirty fighting? How about this. My knee in his face put an end to his bravado. His plaintive wail …”he kicked me in the face!” … put an end to that “war.” If today’s Wht Hts have a choice between dirty fighting and dirty dancing, I’m all in favor of the former.
